The story behind Flow
At the centre of the artwork stands a blindfolded woman. She represents humanity. She cannot see where she is going. She does not know what lies ahead and has no control over what is happening around her. Yet she is not alone.
Surrounding her are four angels. Although the woman cannot see them, they guide her. The flowing fabrics moving throughout the composition appear to gently carry her forward and direct her towards the right path. This image forms the heart of Flow.
In life, we often try to look ahead. We make plans, set goals and want to know where our choices will ultimately lead. We seek certainty and try to maintain control over what happens. But life cannot be planned completely. Sometimes something changes unexpectedly. A plan falls through, a particular path comes to an end or an opportunity suddenly appears that we could never have anticipated. At such a moment, we often do not yet understand why it is happening or what it will eventually lead to.
Flow is about having the courage to let go of that control.
It is about trusting that you do not always need to see the entire path in order to keep moving forward.
