Menthol was the first black man in the city Hengelo (1920). He traveled the entire country to sell toothpaste, something people never heard of before! That's how he got his nickname ''Menthol''. He married the prettiest girl in the city called ''Roosje''. He's black, she's white, an impossible combination at the time. This was one of the first interracial marriages in the Netherlands! The hands represent his wife. A rose is painted in the background to symbolize love and marriage. Color doesn't play a roll.
